It was also known as "Tawi" or the Two Lands, which indicates Upper Egypt and Lower Egypt (Delta).

Later, it was named "Hat Ka Ptah", which is originally the name of one of the most famous temples of the god Ptah in Memphis.

Also, it was mentioned in the Old Testament as "Masraim" (Mitzráyim) as pronounced in Hebrew related to "Masriam son of Ham son of Noah". This name means "the extended land or the land that is protected".

Then, it was also mentioned in the Holy Quran by "Misr".

The English name Egypt is derived from the Ancient Greek Aígyptos.

It is pronounced Masr by the local dialect of Egyptians.

Flag

The Egyptian flag was adopted on October 4, 1984.

The flag is composed of three horizontal equal stripes of red, white, and black, and the Egyptian eagle of Salah el din in the center of the white band, written on its base the "Arab Republic of Egypt" in Kufic script.

The red color represents the people’s struggle against the British

control of their country.

The white color represents the peaceful and bloodless nature of the

revolution itself.

Climate

In Egypt, there are three types of climate: Mediterranean climate on the northern coast, desert climate in inland areas, and finally, the climate of the coast of the Red Sea, equally desert but a bit milder.

- On the Mediterranean coast (Alexandria, Marsa Matrouh), there's a very mild, spring-like winter: highs are around 18/19 °C (64/66 °F) and lows around 9/10 °C (48/50 °F), though this is the only period of the year when weak or moderate rains occur. Summer is long, muggy, and sunny, with highs around 30 °C (86 °F), but tempered by sea breezes. The humidity is high, especially in the delta of the Nile River.

- In the interior, the climate is desert, with virtually no rain; the temperatures increase gradually as you head south. Winters are mild and sunny, but nights are cool to cold, ranging from 5/7 °C (41/45 °F) in the central area (as Luxor) to 10/11 °C in the southern area (as Aswan), though the temperature on the coldest nights can approach freezing (0 °C or 32 °F). The winter days are pleasantly mild or warm, about 20/22 °C (68/72 °F) on average.

- In inland areas, summers are scorchingly hot, with highs ranging from 36/37 °C (97/99 °F) in the center-north to 40/42 °C (104/108 °F) in the south, and during this season, the sun hits hard. On the hottest days, the temperature in the south can reach as high as 50/52 °C (122/126 °F). On the coasts of the Red Sea (as Hurghada & Sharm Al-sheikh) the climate is desert, but tempered by the sea: the rainfall is very little or totally absent as in the interior, but the temperature range is lower and the humidity is generally higher. Therefore, the days in summer are very hot and humid, with minimum temperatures around 25 °C (77 °F) and maximum temperatures around 34/35 °C (93/95 °F), except when the wind blows from the desert and raises the temperature while lowering the humidity.

The best time to visit Egypt is winter (November to February ) if you want to visit the archaeological sites of Egypt or Hurghada & Sharm al -sheik when the weather is normally mild and sunny. The temperature range can be high, especially in the south, so much so that it can be warm during the day but even cold at night.
