Country Name

Lebanon, or is officially known as the Lebanese Republic.


Location

Lebanon is located in Western Asia. It is bordered by Syria to the north and east and Palestine to the south, while Cyprus is west across the Mediterranean Sea.




Capital

Beirut.



Reason for Naming

The name of Mount Lebanon originates from the Phoenician root lbn (𐤋𐤁𐤍) meaning "white", apparently from its snow-capped peaks.



Flag

The flag was adopted in 1943. The flag of Lebanon is consisting of a white field with two horizontal Red stripes at the top and bottom with a green cedar tree in the center.

The red color symbolize bloodshed for liberation, the white band represents peace, purity, and the snowy mountains, the green cedar tree is the symbol of Lebanon and represents eternity, holiness, steadiness, happiness, and prosperity and it was mentioned in the bible 77 times.

Language

Arabic is the official national language. Arabic is one of the world’s six major languages and the Quran’s foundational language. Like most Arab league countries, Arabic is Lebanon’s official and national language, although English and French languages are also used.

The majority of Lebanese people speak Lebanese Arabic, and English and French languages are also used.




Religion

Lebanon has a number of major faiths.

Islam (Sunni and Shia) and Christianity are the two major religions (the Maronite Church, the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Armenian Apostolic Church, and the Assyrian Church of the East).

There are also relatively few Jews, Baha'is, Buddhists, Hindus, and Mormons, as well as the Druze minority faith.

Climate

Lebanon has a Mediterranean climate characterized by long, hot, dry summers and short, cool, rainy winters.

In the interior, occupied by mountain ranges and valleys, the climate is more continental, in fact, winters become progressively colder with increasing altitude, while summers are very hot in the areas below 1,000 meters (3,300 feet).

January is the coldest month, with temperatures from 5°C to 10°C, and August is the hottest month at 18°C to 38°C.

The best times to visit Lebanon are spring and autumn: you can visit the coastal cities, including Beirut, and the Bekaa Valley as well, in April-May and September-October, bearing in mind that in the Bekaa Valley, in April and October nights are very cool or even cold.
