Country Name

Bangladesh, and officially the People's Republic of Bangladesh.


Location

Bangladesh is a country in South Asia. Bangladesh shares land borders with India to the west, north, and east, Myanmar to the southeast, and the Bay of Bengal to the south. It is narrowly separated from Nepal and Bhutan by the Siliguri Corridor, and from China by Sikkim, in the north.



Capital

Dhaka.



Reason Of Naming

The term Bangla denotes both the Bengal region and the Bengali language.

The Indo-Aryan suffix Desh is derived from the Sanskrit word deśha, which means "land" or "country". Hence, the name Bangladesh means "Land of Bengal" or "Country of Bengal".





Flag

The flag of Bangladesh was adopted on 17 January 1972, It consists of a green background with a red circle that is offset slightly toward the hoist so that it appears centered when the flag is flying. The green color represents the lushness of the land of Bangladesh and the eternal youth of Bangladesh. The red color represents the sun rising over Bengal, and also the blood of those who died for the independence of Bangladesh.

*Flag Facts:

-The flag of Bangladesh, the flag of Japan & the Flag of Palau are similar in design, while there is no direct relationship between the flags, there are indirect similarities.

- Both flags have a big red dot in the center of the flag, but the main difference is that the Japanese flag is a white rectangular flag whereas the flag of Bangladesh features a green field. -This Circle represents the sun in the Japanese flag & Bangladesh flag while the flag of Palau represents the moon.



Language

Bengali* is both the official and the national language of Bangladesh.

In Bangladesh, 98% of Bangladeshis speak Standard Bengali or one of the many Bengali dialects fluently as their first language. Bengali is used in all government affairs. Also, The Aryan languages are spoken mainly in the lowlands of Bangladesh.

English has no official status in Bangladesh, the language is frequently used in government administration, educational institutions, courts, business, and media of the country.

There is a high demand for English education in the country as knowledge.

Other tribal languages include Garo, Meitei, Kokborok, and Rakhine. Among the Austroasiatic languages, the Santali language is spoken by the Santali tribe. Many of these languages are written in the Bengali script; while there is also some usage of the Latin script.


*The Bengali language is an Aryan language and the most widely spoken language of this class in the country.

Bengali is the world’s seventh most spoken native language.




Religion

Most of the Bangladeshis are Muslims, who form the largest Muslim ethnoreligious group in South Asia and the second largest in the world after the Arabs. The vast majority of Bangladeshi Muslims are Sunni, followed by minorities of Shia and Ahmadiya. There is also a minority of non- Muslims Bengali. Bangladeshi Hindus are the country's second-largest religious group and the third-largest Hindu community in the world, after India and Nepal. Buddhism is the third-largest religion, at 0.6 %. Bangladeshi Buddhists are concentrated among ethnic groups in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (particularly the Chakma, Marma, and Tanchangya peoples), while coastal Chittagong is home to a large number of Bengali Buddhists. Christianity is the fourth-largest religion, at 0.4 percent. Roman Catholicism is the largest denomination among Bangladeshi Christians.

Climate

The climate of Bangladesh is subtropical in the center-north and tropical in the south, with a pleasantly warm and sunny winter from November to February, a short hot spring between March and May, and a long rainy season from June to October due to the summer monsoon. The country is flat and occupied by the huge Ganges-Brahmaputra Delta, and it's therefore exposed to floods as well as storm surges when cyclones hit the Bay of Bengal.
