Dominica is an island in the Caribbean Sea, located about halfway between the French islands of Guadeloupe (to the north) and Martinique (to the south).

Reason for Naming the country
Its name is pronounced with emphasis on the third syllable, related to its French name Dominique. Dominica has been nicknamed the "Nature Isle of the Caribbean" for its natural environment. The Caribs called the island Wai'tu kubuli, which means "Tall is her body."
Flag
The Dominican flag was adopted on November 3, 1978, when it gained independence from Britain. The Dominican flag was then modified in 1988. The flag consists of a green base with three equal-sized vertical stripes and three equal horizontal stripes crossing through the middle of it. The stripes go from left to right and from top to bottom, they are yellow, black, and red in color. In the middle of the Dominican flag is a red circle with a Sisserou parrot facing the left side (hoist side). Circling the parrot are 10 green five-pointed stars with yellow outlines. The ten green stars, which are the traditional symbol of hope, represent the ten territories of Dominica. The Sisserou Parrot is the national bird of Dominica and represents flight towards greater heights and fulfillment of aspirations. The Parrot also comes from the Dominica Coat of Arms, representing the country's official seal. The Dominican flag's stripes form a cross representing the Trinity of God. The cross itself demonstrates the belief in God. The yellow stripe represents the sunshine of the land, the main agricultural products: citrus and bananas, and also a symbol of the Carib people, the first inhabitants of the Island. The white stripe represents the clarity of our rivers and waterfalls and the purity of aspiration of the people. The black stripe represents the rich black soil of the island on which agriculture is based and also their African heritage. The general background of dark green represents the rich verdant forests and the general lushness of the island."
Language
English is the national and official language of Dominica. French creole is spoken by most of the population.
Religion
The most common religion in Dominica is Christianity, with a majority of practitioners identifying as Roman Catholic. Various minority religious groups on the island include Rastafarians, Jehovah's Witnesses, Anglicans, Muslims, Buddhism, and Hinduism. The constitution of Dominica establishes the freedom of religion, which is broadly respected by both the government and general society.

Climate
Dominica has a tropical climate, hot and humid all year round, with a relatively cool and dry season from January to mid-April and a hot, humid, and rainy season from mid-June to mid-November.
There are two transitional periods from mid-November to early January the northeast wind starts to blow, the temperature decreases a bit, and the weather gets better from mid-April to Mid-June both the temperature and the frequency of downpours gradually increase.
