Flag

The flag of Monaco was adopted on 4 April 1881.

The flag has two equal horizontal stripes, red on the top and white on the bottom.

The flag is a great representation of the Principality of Monaco. The colors are based on the court of arms of Monaco. In the Shield of the Grimaldi’s family court of arms, the colors appear as diamond-shaped patterns.

The red and white colors were mainly used as a form of identity by the family.

The red color represents the flesh of the human body while the white color represents the purity of the soul and spiritual life.

Climate

Monaco has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate with significant marine influences, which has certain characteristics of the oceanic climate and the humid subtropical climate. As a result, it has hot, dry summers and moderate, wet winters. Winters in the city are as warm as areas far further south in the Mediterranean Basin, despite its latitude.

Cool and wet delays can disrupt the dry summer season, which is also shorter on average. Summer afternoons are rarely hot, with temperatures rarely exceeding 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit) due to continual sea breezes. The nights, on the other hand, are quite comfortable due to the relatively high temperature of the sea in July.

Temperatures seldom fall below 20 °C (68 °F) throughout this season. Frosts and snowfalls are exceedingly unusual in the winter, occurring just once or twice every 10 years.
