Country Name

Saint Kitts and Nevis, officially the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis.

Location

Saint Kitts and Nevis are two Caribbean Sea tropical islands that are part of the Leeward Islands. They are located about 400 kilometers east of Puerto Rico. It shares maritime borders with Antigua and Barbuda, Sint Maarten (Netherlands), Venezuela, Montserrat (United Kingdom), and Saint Barthélemy (France).

Charlestown (Nevis).

Reason for Naming the country

The Kalinago, who first occupied the island, named it Liamuiga, which approximately translates as "fertile land." Mount Liamuiga, St. Kitts' highest point, bears the name. The pre-Columbian name of Nevis was Oualie, which means "country of lovely waters." It is believed that Christopher Columbus, the first European to visit the islands in 1493, named the bigger island San Cristóbal after Saint Christopher, his patron saint and the patron saint of travelers. Whatever the origin of the name, the island was fully recorded as San Cristóbal by the 17th century.

The early English colonists retained the English version of this name and named the island St. Christopher's Island. In the 17th century, a frequent nickname for Christopher was Kit(t), hence the island became known as Saint Kitt's Island, eventually abbreviated to Saint Kitt's.

Flag

The flag of St. Kitts and Nevis was adopted on September 19, 1983. The flag of St. Kitts and Nevis consists of three diagonal stripes.

The top stripe is green and the bottom stripe is red, and they are of equal size. In the middle of the flag, there is a Black stripe that is bordered on the top and bottom by a thin yellow stripe. In the black stripe, there are two white stars. The green color represents the agriculture and fertility of the country. The red represents the nation's difficulty in trying to end slavery and colonialism and achieve independence. The black represents the African heritage of the islands. Yellow stands for consistent sunshine in the Caribbean. The stars represent the islands of St. Kitts and Nevis and symbolize their liberty and hope.

Climate

St. Kitts and Nevis have a tropical climate that is hot and humid all year, with a comparatively cold, dry season from January to mid-April and a hot, humid, and rainy season from mid-June to mid-November. The northeast trade winds, which are steady winds typical of tropical regions, blow consistently and with moderate intensity in the former phase, however, in the later period, these winds are more irregular and may have some pauses, heightening the impression of sultriness. There are two transitional times between them: from mid-November to early January (when the northeast wind begins to blow, the temperature drops somewhat, and the weather improves) and from mid-April to mid-June (when both the temperature and the frequency of downpours gradually increase). Saint Kitts and Nevis is a state in the Lesser Antilles, consisting of the two islands of the same name, with Basseterre as the main city.

The daily average temperature fluctuates from roughly 25 degrees Celsius in January and February, the coolest months, to 28 degrees Celsius between June and October, the warmest.
