Reason for Naming
The name of Singapore comes from the native Malay name for the country, Singapura, which was in turn derived from the Sanskrit word for lion city "Siṃhapura" literally means "lion city"; siṃha means "lion", Pura means "city" or "fortress".
Flag
The Flag of Singapore was adopted on 3 December 1959. The flag consists of two horizontal stripes with red & white colors, on the left side of the upper red stripe a symbol of a crescent facing the fly and a pentagon of five stars.
The red color represents unity, equality, and a sense of brotherhood among all citizens of Singapore
The white color represents virtue and purity, the crescent represents the young nation of Singapore on the rise & of Islam. The five stars represent the ideals of equality, democracy, progress, peace, and justice
Language
Singapore has four official languages: English, Malay, Mandarin, and Tamil.
English is the lingua franca and the main language used in business, government, law, and education.
The Singaporean government designated Malay as a national language after independence from Britain in the 1960s to avoid friction with Singapore's Malay-speaking neighbors of Malaysia and Indonesia.
Mandarin is one of the major languages spoken in Singapore, It is important to note that most people who speak Mandarin are Chinese Singaporeans.

Climate
The climate in Singapore is equatorial, hot, humid, and rainy throughout the year. The temperature in Singapore is quite similar since it only varies by a few degrees between the coolest and the warmest months. The minimum temperature ranges from 23 °C (73 °F) in December and January to 25 °C (77 °F) in May and June, while the maximum ranges from 30 °C (86 °F) in December and January to 32 °C (90 °F) in April and May.
The best time to visit Singapore in January, February, June, July & August: February is the sunniest, and there are "only" 12 days with rain on average. January and February, are less rainy and are not muggy. After the hot period from March to early June, July and August are also acceptable.
