Country Name

Vanuatu is officially the Republic of Vanuatu.

Location

It is a Pacific island country located in the South Pacific Ocean. The archipelago, which is of volcanic origin, is 1,750 kilometers (1,090 mi) east of northern Australia, 540 kilometers (340 mi) northeast of New Caledonia,

east of Papua New Guinea, southeast of the Solomon Islands, and west of Fiji.

Port Vila.



Reason for Naming the country

Vanuatu's name derives from the word Vanua "land" or "home", which occurs in several Austronesian languages, and the word tu means "stand". Together the two words indicated the independent status of the new country.


Flag

The Vanuatu flag was adopted on February 13, 1980.

Vanuatu gained independence from France and Britain on July 30, 1980.

After the Vanuaaku Party led the country to independence the party's colors were adopted as the basis for the national flag.

The flag of Vanuatu is divided into three sections. There is a red horizontal stripe over top of a green one, and on the left side of the flag, there is a yellow Y that runs through the middle of the flag. The Y is outlined in black with a black triangle filling in the Y.

Inside the triangle, there is an emblem of a boar's tusk with two fern leaves inside it.

Language

The official languages are Bislama, English, and French.

The national language of the Republic of Vanuatu is Bislama-Bislama is a pidgin language.

The principal languages of education are English and French. The use of English or French as the formal language is split along political lines.

In addition, 113 indigenous languages, are still actively spoken in Vanuatu.



Religion

Christianity is the predominant religion in Vanuatu, consisting of several denominations. The Presbyterian Church in Vanuatu, adhered to by about one-third of the population, is the largest of them and makes Vanuatu the most Presbyterian country in the world. Roman Catholic and Anglican are other common denominations. The less significant groups are the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Church of Christ, Neil Thomas Ministries (NTM), Jehovah's Witnesses, and others. In 2007, Islam in Vanuatu was estimated to consist of about 200 converts.

Climate

Vanuatu has a subtropical climate. Summer is from November to March, the average temperature is 28°C (up to 32°C) and it can be hot, wet, and humid. Winter is from April to October with the temperature averaging 23°C. Sea temperature varies from 22 to 28 degrees making swimming enjoyable all year round.


The best time to visit Vanuatu is from May till October.

temperatures are generally between 21 and 32 degrees Celsius, with night temperatures between 15 and 27 degrees Celsius.

Rain can occur throughout the year but mostly falls between January and April. Cyclones are possible between December and April.
